Choose a currency
Free provides EUR, CHF, GBP, and USD when creating a register. With Pro, go to Settings → “Currencies and denominations” to create custom definitions with 0 to 3 decimal places, a cash increment, and denominations. Kassento neither converts currencies nor mixes them in totals.
Change the app language
Under Settings → “Language”, choose System, German, English, French, Italian, or Spanish. On Android 13+, Kassento and the operating-system app-language setting share the same selection. On iOS, an external app-language change is applied when the app launches or resumes.
Custom currency after losing Pro
Definitions, registers, and drafts that were already used or restored from a backup remain readable, and drafts can still be completed. Creating or editing one, or activating one for a new register, requires Pro. Monetary properties of a currency that is already in use can only be changed through a new version.
Restore purchases
Open Settings → “Restore purchases” and use the same Apple or Google account used for the purchase.
Create a backup
Open Settings → “Data backup” → “Create encrypted backup”, choose a password of at least six characters, and select a destination such as Save to Files, iCloud Drive, or Google Drive in the system share sheet. Creating a backup is a Pro feature.
Restore a backup
Open Settings → “Data backup” → “Restore backup”. Select the file, enter its original password, review the preview, and confirm replacement. Restoring a backup is always free.
PDF or CSV is missing
Reports are Pro features. Check your Pro status and restore the purchase if necessary.
Confirm drawer movements
After a saved closing, open “Confirm withdrawal/top-up”. Pro can record multiple local safe or bank deposits, drawer top-ups, or tip withdrawals. Correct a mistake with a reversal event; only “Confirm final balance” freezes the final drawer balance.
Opening balance is missing
Only an explicitly confirmed final balance from the same register and currency is carried forward automatically. Without a confirmed source, enter the amount manually or use the target balance only as a suggestion. A manual override keeps the visible source information.
Plan change by denomination
Open the register menu → “Settings” → “Target composition” and enter the desired quantity for each denomination. After a saved closing, “Change order” shows the coins and notes missing from that target. This is local planning, not proof of an order.
Use the staff list
Under Settings → “Staff list”, Pro can store local names and offer them for “Counted by” or “Approved by”. This creates no accounts, roles, or sign-ins. Deactivating or deleting an entry never changes saved closings or tip shares.
Split tips
First record the tip during closing. Then open the saved closing → “Split tips”, add people, and use positive shares such as hours, minutes, or equal values. Kassento allocates the exact total; the split is neither payroll nor a payout.
Manual terminal reconciliation
In the optional closing section, Pro compares a manually entered expected aggregate POS card total with the actual aggregate terminal settlement. Kassento calculates only the separate card variance. There is no POS, terminal, or bank connection and no entry of card numbers, customer data, or individual transaction data. A saved reconciliation remains readable without Pro, and its draft can still be completed.
Closing reminder is missing
Enable the Pro reminder under Settings → “End of day” and select a time and at least one weekday. If no reminder is scheduled, allow notifications through the device-settings link offered there. The schedule applies only to this device and contains no register data.
Add a receipt photo
Open a saved closing and choose Camera or Photo library under “Receipt photo”. The Pro feature requests access only after you select a source, stores at most one locally re-encoded JPEG without copied EXIF/GPS metadata, and lets you delete it individually. Existing photos remain viewable, shareable, and deletable without Pro.
Export diagnostics
Settings → “Export local diagnostics log” creates a temporary file only when you request it, containing time, feature area, operation, and a coarse error code. Inspect it before sending and never include receipt photos, passwords, or real register data.
Store is unavailable
The free workflow remains available. Try the purchase or restoration again later. A confirmed local Pro status remains usable offline.
Delete local data
Under Settings → “Delete all local data”, complete both confirmation steps. This cannot be undone. You must delete externally stored backup files separately at their destination.
Four separate storage and restoration paths
Local working data
Registers, drafts, and closings are held in the live SQLite database within the app sandbox. Automatic saving is not an independent backup; Kassento does not additionally encrypt this database.
Device backup
An enabled iCloud/Finder device backup may include the database, processed receipt photos, and local preferences. Android cloud backup includes the database and preferences but deliberately excludes receipt photos; a direct Android device transfer may include them. No device backup carries over the Pro purchase entitlement. The operating system determines timing, scope, and restoration.
Portable data backup
Only when you request it, Pro creates a password-encrypted .kassento-backup file from the complete database, including custom currency definitions, opening sources, drawer movements, closing confirmations, manual terminal reconciliations, and existing receipt photos. Restoring it is free and, after a preview, replaces the local Kassento data. Device-specific app protection, the diagnostic log, and the reminder schedule are not included.
Restore a store purchase
This action checks only the Pro entitlement for the Apple or Google account used. It restores no registers, closings, or backup files.
Backups and changing devices
An enabled iCloud/Finder or Android device backup may back up Kassento automatically within the same platform ecosystem. On iOS, it may include receipt photos. Android cloud backup deliberately excludes them because of Android’s per-app 25 MB limit, while a direct Android device transfer may include them. The operating system determines timing and successful restoration, neither of which is guaranteed. No device backup restores the Pro purchase entitlement; a valid purchase is unlocked again after the next online store check.
For a backup you control yourself, especially when moving between iOS and Android, use a portable .kassento-backup file. Format v3 contains registers, drafts, closings, profiles, notes, custom currency definitions, target compositions, the local staff list, tip splits, opening sources, drawer movements, closing confirmations, manual terminal reconciliations, existing receipt photos, and preferences, and is encrypted with your password before saving. Older v2 files remain readable and contain no photos. Keep the file and password separately: Darkstone cannot reset a lost password.
Before restoration, Kassento shows the content and scope. It then replaces the current local data instead of merging it. If an error occurs, a verified rollback snapshot preserves that data. The backup file contains no Pro purchase entitlement; if necessary, restore Pro separately using “Restore purchases” with the same store account.
Change a register’s currency
As long as no closing exists, you can change the currency in the register editor. It is locked afterwards so saved counts remain unambiguous. In the free version, archive the current register and replace it with a new one; an open draft must first be resumed or discarded.
A closing profile permanently belongs to exactly one currency and is offered only for matching registers.
Important notice
“Bank” and “safe” are local event labels. The optional terminal reconciliation also consists solely of two manually entered aggregate totals. Kassento connects to no bank account, safe, POS, terminal, or payment system and confirms no external transfer or settlement. Its local event sequence is not a tamper-proof cash ledger.
